Background of the Study:
In the digital age, access to online academic resources is pivotal for successful project writing and academic research. At Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, students increasingly rely on open access digital resources to support their academic projects. These resources, which include journals, e-books, and scholarly articles, offer a cost-effective alternative to expensive subscription-based databases. The adoption of open access materials has enabled students to access up-to-date research findings and comprehensive data, thereby improving the quality of their academic work. Despite the apparent benefits, challenges remain in terms of digital literacy, ease of access, and the ability to critically evaluate digital content. The study investigates how these factors affect students’ use of open access digital resources for project writing. By analyzing usage patterns, the study seeks to identify the key enablers and barriers to effective resource utilization, aiming to provide recommendations that can enhance the academic performance and research competencies of the student body (Abubakar, 2023).
Statement of the Problem:
Although open access digital resources are readily available, students at Plateau State Polytechnic face challenges in utilizing them effectively for project writing. Issues such as insufficient digital literacy, inadequate training on resource retrieval, and occasional access difficulties reduce the potential benefits of these resources. Consequently, the quality of project work and overall academic performance are adversely affected. This study seeks to identify and address these specific challenges to improve resource utilization (Abubakar, 2023).
Objectives of the Study:

To evaluate the extent of students’ use of open access digital resources for projects.

To identify challenges affecting effective usage for project writing.

To propose strategies to enhance digital resource utilization among students.
Research Questions:

How extensively do students use open access resources for project writing?

What challenges do they encounter in accessing and utilizing these resources?

What measures can improve the use of digital resources in academic projects?
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it evaluates how the effective use of open access digital resources can enhance project writing among students. The findings will assist academic administrators in designing training programs and policies that boost digital literacy, leading to improved academic outcomes and project quality at Plateau State Polytechnic (Abubakar, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to examining students' use of open access digital resources for project writing at Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, without extending to other forms of academic resource utilization.
Definitions of Terms:

Open Access Digital Resources: Online academic materials that are freely available for use.

Project Writing: The process of researching, drafting, and completing academic assignments or projects.

Digital Literacy: The skills necessary to effectively locate, evaluate, and use digital information.
